The Health Benefits of Chlorella

Chlorella is a green algae, so named due to the high level of chlorophyll it contains. It is comprised of a fibrous outer shell and with high levels of nutrients within. Chlorophyll is effective in helping anaemia and it assists the production of red blood cells within the body. This increased level of red blood cells also improves blood flow to the brain, improving both mental processes and increasing energy.

The consumption of Chlorella is also an effective means of improving the carrying of metabolic waste from the tissues of the body. Positive effects include that bad breath is relieved, and constipation is overcome. Mercury detoxification is also aided by the action of chlorella in the blood. It has a powerful detoxification effect, in removing pesticides and heavy metals. Chlorella has also been shown to help the body to break down metallic toxins such as lead, whilst strengthening the immune system, and so further aiding the body. The full effects of this detoxification are present after taking chlorella for 3-6 months.

Chlorella has been shown to help fight cancer. It stimulates the activity of T-cells and macrophages by raising the level of interferon in the body. Interferon is produced by the body and acts as a necrosis factor in the reduction of tumours.

It contains enzymes which aid digestion. These include pepsin and chlorophylase. Many other enzymes are also present, which perform various functions within the body. Importantly, though, Chlorella must not be pasteurised or freeze dried as these temperature extremes will result in the loss of many of the enzymes’ functions. Further health benefits of chlorella include that it normalizes the level of blood sugar in the case of hypoglycaemia. The maintenance of a normal blood sugar level is necessary for the effective metabolism of energy, and assists the normal functioning of the brain and the heart.

Blood pressure is also balanced by the consumption of chlorella. It helps to reduce high blood pressure and thereby lowers the risk of heart attack and stroke. Further, chlorella assists in balancing the pH level of the body. Processed foods, for example, affect the pH level, and lower its resistance to disease. A pH of 7.2-7.4 is important to help maintain the neutrality of the body. Many diseases thrive in an acidic environment. Chlorella aids to balance the pH level and therefore may help to reduce the incidence of disease.
